Ruby Skye P.I. Season 3: Ep. 9: The Smoking Poop

Mrs. GoogeSo Hailey has been kidnapped. With the help of Kat, Pixel’s REAL owner and absolutely no help from detective Von Schlagen, Ruby finds out that  Mr. Cumberbund and Trudy Snood captured Hailey.  When Ruby finds Hailey Mr. Cumberbund finds Ruby and by the end of the episode Ruby is captured too!!!

I love how Mrs. Googe plays along to the fact that she thinks Ruby is a horrible person just because she wants to do the right thing. Even if it means breaking her sister’s heart. Ruby just wants to make things right. She just wants to give Pixel or Nicki or Fluffy or what ever the heck that cute little dog’s real name is back to Kat the little girl.

I don’t understand why the police officer always says “roll your eyes at your mother like a Von Schlagen and glovenormal teenager” or “throw your cloths on the floor like a normal teenager” or “go slam some doors like a normal teenager.” Detective Von Schlagen; Ruby Skye is NOT a normal teenager. Stop asking her to be like one?

I am so excited for the next episode I hope that Ruby and her sister will meet the buyer that Trudy was talking about. I wonder who that is? The ice cream man from season one? No it can’t be him, he is way too nice. He gave away his lucky hat to someone who really needed it. He would never illegally buy stolen flobbles.  Someone else from The Big Chill? Maybe but we’ve only really seen one other person at the big chill that works there. The random guy that worked at the till when Zoffi wasn’t there. Maybe it’s Griffin from season one? But he’s too young. Maybe it’s the people who were trying to scam everybody in Season One?

Ruby Skye P.I.  started on Youtube in 2010.  There’s been two other seasons. Season One: The Spam Scam about the fake nigerian prince scam for money via a fake charity for animals in need and Season Two: The Haunted Library about a crazy old lady that mysteriously dies and leaves a puzzle for a will, Ruby must find the will before either members of the old lady’s crazy descendants. I think it was good then and it has only gotten better!

Ruby Skye P.I. Season 3 Ep. 8: Mean Girl

pup and girlsHailey escaped to Mrs. Googe’s house! She was in there to hide from Ruby but when Ruby gets to Mrs. Googe’s house she finds out that Hailey is in trouble! Hailey left a red hair elastic – that’s the secret sister signaling system for danger!

Still no word yet about the Flobble thief. Darn! I really thought it was Mr. Cumberbund because everyone else was proven innocent. Mr. Cumberbund looked Ruby straight in the eye and he didn’t even twitch or scratch. Plus, he has an alibi with proof. We did see little smirk from him at the end of his conversation with Ruby as soon as she closed the door though. I’m so torn! But if he didn’t steal the flobbles who did?!

Oh, that mean girl Diana talked about in her diary is actually Ruby. As in Ruby Skye! I guess they’ve both been at each others throats. But still? I always assumed Diana started it.

On the emotional side of things, Ruby is starting to find out that her craving for mystery might be alienating her friends. Edmund and the police officer think she’s a pain in the butt, her own sister thinks she’s a soulless monster and Diana thinks she’s the meanest person in the world! You could basically sum up Ruby’s personal life like this: Everyone thinks she really mean and annoying.

Not only does this season’s mystery keep me at the edge of my seat but there’s so much drama too! They sure have pulled out all the stops for this. Wait?! If they are pulling out all of the stops for this season is that saying there won’t be anymore seasons?  I certainly don’t want that to happen! I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Be sure to visit the Ruby Skye PI Site HERE! It’s got all of the episodes of Ruby Skye so far, even from Season 1 and 2!

Ruby Skye P.I. Season 3 Ep. 7: Rat’s Nest

FlobbleOk, so to recap since the last recap:

Zoffi is in jail for something he didn’t do.

Weirdo police officer is still not listening to Ruby.

Edmund thinks Ruby’s a pain in the butt.

Diana and Reeny are planting bombs of kindness.

Diana is being bullied a lot so she doesn’t want to go to school anymore.

Ruby found out that Hailey was taking down her dog posters.

Hailey found the real dog owner, Trudy Snood, before Ruby did.

Hailey ran away with the dog.

There’s still no Flobble thief.

Things are not looking good for Ruby, although on the up side, she doesn’t have to share a room with Hailey anymore.

I love how this season they’ve introduced the secret sister signaling system. Orange means:  don’t wake me up if you want to live to see tomorrow, while green means: sorry,  but not so much. It’s a super cool secret code!

Also, I still can’t believe Edmund called Ruby a pain in the butt! Why would he do that? I thought Edmund liked Ruby? I mean, Zoffi said that Edmund thinks Ruby “is beautiful and so smart.” First Edmund helps Ruby with the mystery then wants nothing to do with it? Talk about a bad friend.

A storm’s brewing. I have a feeling something big is going to happen soon. There’s been so many small things that have been happening like the finding of the dog, Hailey running away, Zoffi going to jail and all the name calling and yelling. I don’t know what’s going to happen next but it’s going to be the turning point of the mystery, the big realization. I can’t wait for next week!

C.I.F.F. 2013 at a Close

CIFFA week ago, CI..I.F.F. ended. It was really fun. I got to do all sorts of interesting things, from talking to Gordon Pinsent, To watch all sorts of movies from all around the world to being a juror for the Youth By Youth Competition also known as the YYC. Thank you so much Mrs. Jenn Cecconi, the director of the YYC, for choosing me to be a juror.

If you’re wondering what the YYC is, it’s a competition where kids ages 8 to 18 compete against each other to see who makes the best short films. The three categories were, best overall, best local live action and best local animation. here were a lot of new filmmakers and I think that next year here will be a lot more competition,  so don’t give up!

We chose HB to win the award for best overall, which is about the dangers of dropping your pencil at your Math 30 exam.

Death be Not Proud won the award for best local live action. It’s basically a music video but what she did with the camera was really difficult, and she made some awesome references to some really good poets whom I’ve never heard of.

Guardian won best local animation. It was about a cat guarding it’s owner from the dark clutches of evil spirits.

It was really cool being a member of the jury! You feel important and professional! l think that being a juror also has it’s responsibilities, you have to say your opinion even if your opinion doesn’t get to make it to the final decision. and you have to think of why you didn’t’ like what you didn’t like and why you liked what you liked.

I thought that my favorite movies in all of the festival (that I saw) were probably The Legend of Sarila and Common Chord. Oh and The Grand Seduction, I hope that you read why I liked them so much but in case you haven’t, yet, here’s why:

I liked The Legend of Sarila because the animation of Nunavut was really pretty and I liked how it had something from every genre. I also got to talk to the director Nancy Savard. She’s really nice and reminded me of my grade two teacher.

I liked Common Chord because it was very emotional and I could feel everyone’s feelings, whether it was confusion, anger, sadness, annoyance, or pure RAGE!!! Everyone did a really good did a really good job at portraying their characters.

I liked the Grand Seduction because it was really funny, and yet at the same time it was sad. Who knew that Gordon Pinsent was funny, and all he really did was give one or two word answers!

Even though I got to see all sorts of movies, and be a member of a jury, none of it can top talking to someone you hopefully you have all heard of – he’s Canadian, he’s older than a lot of people I know, and he’s an actor. No not Christopher Lee, he’s not Canadian. Not Christopher Plummer but that would also be awesome. Yes, finally, I got to talk to Gordon Pinsent!

Oh ya, and Don McKellar, he’s also really nice.

It was so fun to interview people on the red carpet.

Come back next year to the Calgary International Film Festival!

Common Chord at CIFF 2013

COMMON-CHORD_WEBI was lucky enough to get to see the Southern Alberta film Common Chord at the 2013 Calgary International Film Festival.  Here’s what I thought about this film about people trying to be a family.

Common Chord is about a man who became a dad (Jason Cermak) at a very young age to a girl who is already in grade school. He’s trying to learn how to be a parent without the help of the mother, because the mother is passed away, along with the grandmother. To make it harder for the dad, the child is a girl named Teigan (Aslin Malik). So where does the motherly support come from? I’m so glad you asked! It comes from a social worker. Before we get to that part though I have to tell you more about the dad, Kyle Foster. Kyle Foster has always dreamed about becoming a professional musician like his best friend, but in order to do that he thinks he has to move to LA. So why doesn’t he just take off with the kid with no grandma or mom? So glad you asked, it’s because the child’s grandfather (Pete Seadon) Is trying to take possession of Teigan! That’s where the motherly support of the social worker who belongs to both sides of this case comes in.

Through Teigan, The grandpa and Kyle must learn to accept their differences and love Teigan and each other in order to keep Teigan from going to foster care!

My favorite part is when Kyle comes to Teigan’s school and brings a dessert for ancestor day. Nothing sounds wrong with that right? Now think for about five seconds about anyway Kyle could have messed up,  O.K. times up! If you said it could have had nuts in it than ding ding ding! Five imaginary points for you! Everybody knows you can’t bring nuts to school! Then when Kyle and Teigan go to the park together he apologized to Teigan and she says, “That’s ok,Grandpa brought this thing that was really disgusting!”

I really liked how Common Chord was a true Albertan film. It was filmed in Lethbridge, most of the cast was from Lethbridge and it looked like a small town in Canada.  I like it when I can relate to films because they are set near my home!

I thought that Ashlin Malik did a great job as Teigan in this film and did a really good job acting, I can’t believe that this is her first film she acted in. Ashlin Malik is such a good actress, I cannot wait for what she does 10 years from now!

I also thought that Jason Cermak was also really good at portraying Kyle, I could totally feel his pain and agony! When he kicks the trash can when he throws out the dessert he looks like he felt like he really messed up (and he did) and that there’s no way to take custody of Teigan now. It was almost as good as in the Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers, when Viggo Mortensen kicks the orc helmet right at the camera and yells out in pain because he feels like he has failed Merry and Pippin. (Fun Fact! Viggo Mortensen actually broke two of his toes during that scene and that’s the take they actually used in the film!)

I think that everybody under seven would enjoy this film, while people seven to twelve might really feel Teigan’s confusion. People twenty to forty would feel Kyle’s pain. People fifty and up would understand why the grandpa is doing what he does. So there’s something for the whole family. I hope you go see it on the last day of the film festival.
